Food tourism helping local businesses

Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A campaign is working to promote food tourism and agriculture across the U.S. and much of New York State.

"Bon Appetit Appalachia!" is a campaign by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).

The campaign covers 13 states, including New York and fourteen of its counties.

The ARC hopes to provide people with new and unique places to buy and enjoy their food, while also promoting tourism.

Earl Gohl, federal co-chairman of the ARC, said this campaign will also help people see the effort that local businesses put into selling their products.

"Farmers markets, restaurants, the brewers, the wineries and the distilleries, and all great examples of people coming together, putting their ingenuity to work and creating business enterprises that make a difference in local communities," said Gohl.

84 New York destinations were ranked as having distinctive tourism-worthy qualities.
