Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Turning 1 is certainly a big milestone, and for one local icon, his birthday didn't pass without a celebration with furry friends.

Boomer the kangaroo stopped by the Discovery Center to celebrate his birthday with his favorite friends.

A kangaroo's first birthday is the time when they usually leave their parents to find a mate.

For Boomer, it means the end of his educational trips to schools and events.

"Boomer has been educating kids at their birthday parties and schools for the past eight months now and now it's his turn to be celebrated," said Jordan Patch, owner of Animal Adventure. "And I was shocked by how many kids that we went to their birthdays came to Boomer's party today to celebrate with him."

Patch says one of the biggest misconceptions Boomer clears up among kids is to show that kangaroos don't box, they kick.

Boomer will continue teaching children about his species at his home in Animal Adventure.

Animal Adventure is an exotic animal farm that will be having its grand opening in Harpursville in June.
