Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Another milestone in the Prospect Mountain construction project was achieved Friday.
Builders connected the new I-17 eastbound bridge that merges with I-81 south.
Workers will now pour concrete to complete the work on the bridge.
Regional NYS DOT Director Jack Williams expects to move drivers onto the bridge by the end of November.
At that point, they will demolish the old east bound bridge and continue work on the westbound bridge.
He said he's thankful for the continued patience of drivers as the project continues.
"The public has cooperated with us, they've diverted their routes," Williams said. "All of the things that have collectively come together for us in a positive way have, and we're very proud of it all."
The southbound bridge over Chenango Street is also mostly complete.
The DOT expects north and southbound lanes to be moved onto that bridge next week.
The northbound bridge will be closed at that point to be replaced.
