Cooperstown, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The streets of Cooperstown are already packed with baseball fans ready for Hall of Fame weekend, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo is pushing for baseball fans to take a look at the natural attractions New York has to offer.
The campaign is using brief 15-second commercials to let baseball fans know what else there is to do in New York. They highlight wineries, lakes and some historical sites across the state.
"Never been to New York, always wanted to see it," said Carol Persons, of Texas, "Not the city. I wanted to see the country, and the countryside is beautiful."
That's the kind of response Cuomo's "I love NY" campaign is hoping to promote.
"The fact that he tripled the tourism budget," said Baseball Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson, "Through the "I love NY" campaign to $60 million shows how serious he is to the tourism industry."
The campaign uses well-known baseball players from the Yankees and Mets to get fans to enjoy more of New York state.
"In the city, we don't get a lot of the fishing and the ponds and stuff like that," said Mike Scribner, of Boston.
The ads will run on the YES Network and SportsNet NY -- stations that air professional New York baseball games -- to remind fans there's more than one reason to visit New York.
The spots will air through July and August during Yankees and Mets games, and will also include signs behind home plate.
