Conklin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Conklin community celebrates their resilience after being flooded twice in five years with their annual Community Day.
People filled the Floyd L. Maines Conklin Community Center on Saturday to take part in the event, which is in its second year.
Free food, games and information about Conklin businesses attracted local residents.
This day of celebration kicked off last year to lift the spirits of the community after the flood of September 2011.
Conklin has nearly 100 businesses.
Elizabeth Einstein, a member of the Conklin Business Association, says the event shines light on the businesses and neighbors who helped rejuvenate the area.
"We wanted to do something positive for the town to bring people out for something that's fun," Einstein said. "We have great people that live here that are so involved and they volunteer so much of their time."
Conklin Community Day was sponsored by the Conklin Business Association.
