Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Broome County Sheriff's Office published its annual crime report for 2013, where the public can find out what types of crimes are up, and how many arrests the agency has made.

According to the 2013 Broome County Crime report, the Sheriff's Office made more than 500 arrests.100 of those arrests were misdemeanor narcotics possession arrests.

Broome County Sheriff David Harder said although some serious crimes, like murder and aggravated assault, have gone up, the number of arrests have also gone up. Harder attributed that to aggressive patrols and training.

The Sheriff's Office, among several other law enforcement agencies in Broome County, are using social media as a tool.

"If a crime is committed, a larceny or something, and we have it on film, we put it out on the Facebook and right away, we have a number of people responding back," Harder said.

Rapes, burglaries and larcenies have gone down for the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Harder said one of the agency's biggest problems is narcotics. He said that is something the county needs to fight as a whole.
