Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Fire officials rule a second-alarm fire at 2 Brown St. as arson.
The call came out just before 2:30 p.m. Monday for a fire at Golden Rule Lumber Center.
The building has been closed down for years but it may not be empty.
"You know they were just saying up on the second floor there is a bit of an apartment but I don't know if anyone was in there now," said Chief Daniel Thomas, Binghamton Fire Department.
There was smoke and fire in multiple parts of the building and it took about 40 minutes to extinguish the heaviest fire.
"There were a few things to our advantage, there's nothing's around it, no exposures to the other end, which you can't see from here." Chief Thomas said. "There's actually a pretty good opening and an overhead door we were able to open, so a few things went in our favor to get some water on it as quickly as we did."
Binghamton Fire Marshal Dan Eggleston said there was no gas or electric service to the building. Eggleston also said the building has had a fire each year since 2012. Two arsons, this fire and the fire in 2012 and no cause was determined for the fire in 2013.
Crews closed off Glenwood Avenue from Clinton to Main Street during the fire response.
