Candor, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Action News first brought you the story of Polly Tompkins of Candor, and her fight against an aggressive form of breast cancer 15 months ago.

Wednesday morning, Tompkins lost that battle.

She was a first grade teacher at Candor Elementary school, and an avid New York Yankees fan.

Tompkins got to be the bat girl for the Bombers in May last year. She spent time around the batting cage and in the dugout with some of her favorite players.

Tompkins was chosen for her dream job after a fellow teacher sent a letter to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

She said her trip to Yankees Stadium and the connection she made with people there was one of her best memories.
