Celebrating Greece's Independence Day

Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Local Greek-American's pay tribute to their homeland's Independence Day.

March 25 marks when Greece won it's freedom following the revolution in 1821.

The congregation of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox church in Vestal gathered honor the day.

"It is the same as July 4th. We celebrate in this country our national Independence Day. In Greece its their National Independence Day and the greek Americans here in this country celebrate such a festive event," said Father Fr. Michael Bahlatzis.

Greece was freed from the Turkish Ottoman Empire in the Treaty of London in 1827.

Parishioners raised the Greek flag to give thanks.
