Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) As New York still processes Gov. Andrew Cuomo's State of the State Address, what was in the speech that spoke to Southern Tier leaders?
Commissioner of the New York State DMV Barbara Fiala was in town Thursday on behalf of the governor.
She says the Southern Tier can look forward to a focus on jobs, casinos and more tourism.
"The governor is very committed to upstate New York, he is committed to the Southern Tier and it has a lot to do with jobs," said Fiala.
In terms of tourism, Fiala says there will be a strong focus on cosmetic changes.
She said new signs will be placed along the highways highlighting different tourism spots and it will be an obvious change.
Fiala said the state has to look good to promote itself.
"We can't assume that everyone knows what New York has to offer," said Fialia. "We're talking about people from out of state and even people within our own state."
She says it's all about getting the word out and encouraging tourism.
When asked about whether Broome County can support two casinos, she says it has worked in counties in Pennsylvania, but it will be up to the commission to make that decision.
Another change coming to the state will be on your driver's license.
Fiala says out of convenience, if you have a lifetime license to hunt, fish or dive a boat, that will now be shown on your drivers license.
Almost a one-stop-shop license.
It's not mandatory, though.
You have the ability to opt in or out of the new license.
