Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Many retails stores, like Target and Wegmans, are offering as much as 75 percent off their Christmas Season Stock.

This is an annual sale retailers have to rid their shelves of the excess Christmas merchandise, and one that many customers look forward to.

“There are bargain shoppers that wait for this day specifically, ” said Heather Bryant, a supervisor at Target.

At Target, some people lined up early to make sure they got the clearance items they wanted.

"We had people out here this morning, we opened at 7 a.m., and people were lining up despite the weather in the parking lot at 6:30 waiting to come in here to grab the clearance," added Bryant.

For some, it is an affordable way to stock up for next year's Christmas decor, and others find things they can use now.

“I’ve got some ribbon to make bows for plants that we take care of at an attorney’s office, and some gel pens so far. I just got in the door so I’ll be having more fun,” said Bonnie Kauffman of Binghamton.

As soon as the Christmas merchandise is off the shelves many retailers are planning to immediately fill them with Valentine's Day merchandise.

Some stores, including Wegmans, already have Valentine's Day candy out for sale.
