Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The City of Binghamton is looking to go green and wants the community on board for the plans.
The city on Thursday hosted a Blueprint Binghamton Community discussion sponsored by Citizens Bank.
The city's goal is to create green infrastructures, hoping to improve water quality and reduce municipal costs. One unique example: Planting plants and grass on roof tops as a way to literally go green.
"Doing a green roof can help with your own energy cost," said the Binghamton's Director of Economic Development, Merry Harris. "It can help you conserve water so that you can use that runoff and recycle that. It ends up in the long run being not only environmentally friendly but a cost savings for property owners."
Organizers of the event hope the entire city will jump on board and start working toward thinking and acting more green.
