Cortland, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The New York Jets begin season training for the second year at SUNY Cortland.
And as Action News Reporter Leigh Dana tells us, much of the city is getting ready for the teams arrival, as well as thousands of fans.
It's a sea of green in downtown Cortland.
Welcome signs and banners display prominently outside restaurants and shops, as the city revs up for the New York Jets to touch down next week.
"There's a huge buzz in the air. We all know what to expect from last year," said Eric Prior, the JV Cortland High School Football Coach.
Which is why many hotels are placing more staff on hand to accommodate day trippers who want to watch the team practice.
And restaurants are getting ready to serve fans... and players.
The owner at City Central Bar and Grill hopes to add another signed jersey on the wall next to Mark Sanchez's.
"Because Mark Sanchez was in here?"
"He was in here. He and the whole offensive line came in here after the green and white scrimmage last year. So that's Saturday night, so that could be a really big one for us," said owner Mike Spollen.
There's even more excitement down the street, where Brix on Main Street will open its doors for the first time next Wednesday.
"For us it's a huge anticipation with the community. Everyone has been waiting for Brix to open. So you that that and parallel it with the arrival of the Jets and it's really really big for us. And we will be prepared," said owner Robby Petralla.
Last year about 34,000 people came to Cortland to watch the Jets train. This year the city expects that number to double.
"We've got extra parking that's going to provided and we're going to provide extra shuttle service," said Bob Haight, with the Cortland County Chamber of Commerce.
It's all so fans can J-E-T-S.
Just Enjoy Training Season.
