Cuomo touts tourism at Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Governor Andrew Cuomo officially kicked off the summer tourism season in New York by making a trip to one of the state's popular attractions.

Cuomo was at Watkins Glen Saturday for the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen race to announce a few things the state is doing to attract more visitors.

He unveiled a new TV advertisement, featuring New Yorker Robert DeNiro.

The commercial encourages people to get out and take the "Ultimate Road Trip" in New York State.

There's also a new social media campaign called "Why I Love New York" that will feature people in short, video messages.

Cuomo said New York is even easier to navigate now, since new signs have been added on the highways to highlight attractions.

"New York was always one of the best places to visit, now we think it's one of the easiest places to visit. And that's what this ad is going to display," said Cuomo.

The governor said New York has seen an increase in spending, tax revenue and visitors over the last year, and one out of every 12 jobs in New York is tourism-related.
