Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Hundreds of local families in need will be getting one of the items on their wish list this holiday season thanks to a community diaper drive.

The Miller Auto Team dropped off 10,000 diapers and wipes to the Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network in Binghamton.

The dealership organized a diaper drive in October and dropped off all donations just in time for the holidays.

The Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network said it's been struggling with a diaper shortage and doesn't always have the supplies to give families in need.

"I think just with the economy people are really low on cash and diapers are expensive," said Director Linda Phelps, "You know they have to buy food and pay their bills, it's just hard to buy diapers too."

The Mothers and Babies PAL Center will distribute the diapers immediately. The center serves hundreds of families a year.

"If someone comes into the center we try to give them 10 diapers just so we have enough to disperse to everyone," Phelps said, "They can come back once a month to get more diapers."

The Miller Auto Team is considering making the diaper drive an annual event based on the success of community donations.

"Diapers are very expensive as well as the wipes," said Honda Sales Manager Steve Miller, "And a lot of people can't afford it. So if they decide between food as well as diapers we definitely want them to choose food."
