Town of Maine, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Maine Memorial held a Flag Day event on Friday.
The ceremony featured patriotic music and a formal flag raising ceremony conducted by the color guard of the George F. Johnson American Legion Post 1700.
Frank George, a World War II prisoner of war, attended the school's event.
The school's kindergarten students marched out first and the fifth graders performed a special march to the commands of Tauna LaBare, a teacher.
Facts about the flag were read throughout the ceremony.
The school also included an anti-bullying message into the event. All staff wore t-shirts that read, "We've Got Your Back."
In addition, the school's retiring staff members were honored at the event, as well as student Matthew Craig, who passed away this year.
The retirees, along with members of the Craig family, rang the school bell at the entrance to the school. It is school tradition that anyone who enters into the Maine Memorial School community will ring the bell when they arrive, and again when they leave.
