Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton students took to the runway Friday night to promote acceptance through self-expression at their annual homecoming fashion show.
The show was held by the BU Black Student Union as a fundraiser for their youth program, which aims to deliver the messages of individuality and cultural education.
Aptly named, the show entitled "Fashionnation" featured students strutting their stuff across the Andersen Theater sage in garments representing styles from all across the globe.
"We have designers from Africa, we have an Indian showcase, we have Europe, New York City, all the different elements that make up the fashion landscape," explained BSU President Ese Olumhense.
Most of the clothing designers, models and makeup artists who donated their time to the event were BU students.
Organizers said the Union has been supporting inner-city children and local programs like the Boys and Girls Club for several years.
"We bring them up here every Saturday, they get breakfast, the busing is free. They get social, academic, cultural activities, all for free," said Olumhense.
She said the hope for the fashion show this year was to raise enough money through ticket sales to pay for youth transportation to and from the Vestal campus.
