Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) People have one thing in common at Vestal's New Life Church; they share the spirit of giving, both inspiration and food.

This is the fourth year in a row New Life Ministries has held a holiday food drive. The idea is to feed those in need, and in turn, nourish the entire community.

"We filled two or three shopping carts full of just food at Aldis," Sabrina Edic said.

Soups, rice, and lots of peanut butter and jelly made the shopping list for this year's food drive. The goal is to feed 50 families in the Southern Tier for an entire month.

"We, as a community, see people in need but don't think to do anything about it, or think someone else will take care of it," said Justin Quiles, Student Ministries Coordinator. "We have the active chance to really try to get rid of hunger as best we can."

Between New Life's four branches, the church said they already have enough food to feed five families.

"As long as we give, I think that was the paramount," Michael Prentice said. "Just giving, and giving as much as we could was the important thing."

New Life Vestal's pastor, Joe Wickman, said he's inspired everyday by the people he inspires.

The branch in Vestal opened just last month, and community members are already taking the drive to heart.

"Time and time again, I've just seen people who are generous and they pour out and donate so others can have what they need," Wickman said. "That just moves your heart and it's really something special to be a part of."

He said he hopes these generous people inspire others to give back. By doing so, they could nourish the whole community.

If you would like to give to the food drive, New Life Ministries has branches in Vestal, Endicott, Owego, and Athens, PA.
