Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Half of women recently diagnosed with breast cancer will reach out to the American Cancer Society for help.

Survivors and supporters made plans for the upcoming Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at a kick-off breakfast at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

People shared their stories about how breast cancer has affected their lives and those they know.

The walk raises money for research and programs to help cancer patients, and eventually win the battle against breast cancer.

"It has impacted many of my friends. It is a terrible disease. And we want to finish the fight and be done with this cancer," said Catherine Klein, of the American Cancer Society.

Klein said all the money raised stays in the area.

The walk starts at 10 a.m. on Oct. 19 at Recreation Park in Binghamton.
