Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Hundreds rallied outside of the Binghamton State Office Building, in hopes of stopping the closure of the Broome Developmental Center.
Those who were at the rally urged the community to call or write state legislators and the governor, to pass the Freeze Unsafe Closures Act.
They said closing the BDC would have devastating effects to the community and those currently at the center.
"It would affect everything," said Colleen Wheaton, Regional President of the Civil Service Employees Association.
"It means that the residents themselves in the facilities may need to go to another county to live," added Wheaton.
If the act doesn't pass, the center is scheduled to close in March of 2016.
