Candor, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A yard sale in Candor isn't raising money for personal gain, but for a local cheerleading squad.

The Candor Youth Association held a yard sale Saturday afternoon to raise money for their Silver Squad, which is made up of 10 fifth and sixth graders.

All of the items at the yard sale were donated by the community and the items didn't have any price tags, CYA only asked for donations.

The money raised from the yard sale will help buy uniforms for the cheerleaders. Currently, the Silver Squad does not have sizes of uniforms for all of their girls, and the uniforms don't match.

Janelle Hurd, CYA operations manager, says having matching uniforms will help build confidence in the girls and the squad.

"It's an embarrassment to the girls, even the little girls know they're supposed to be a uniformed team," Hurd said.

Hurd says she hopes to raise $1,500 for the uniforms.

The squad will start cheering for football games in September.
