Town of Maine, NY (WBNG Binghamton) For the first time in five years, the Greater Binghamton Airshow will take flight over the Southern Tier.
"The planets really need to align when you're putting on an airshow. This year, it aligned perfectly," said Carl Beardsley, Commissioner of Aviation at the Greater Binghamton Airport.
Beardsley said he expects thousands of people to head up to the air show this weekend, and is anticipating parking that many cars too.
For the first time in airshow history, parking will be at the airport along side of the runways. There will be a $5 fee.
Beardsley said that there will be an extra entrance and exit lane around the airport to help accommodate all of the cars coming and going to the airshow.
"If you buy tickets beforehand, before the day of the event, you're going to be able to get a discount," Beardsley said.
Tickets are available at Mirabito stores throughout the Southern Tier. If you buy them before the weekend, the prices are $12 for adults and $7 for kids. If you wait until the day of the show, it's $15 for adults and $10 for kids. Children under the age of eight will get in for free.
As for people traveling in and out of the Greater Binghamton Airport this weekend, Beardsley said there shouldn't be much conflict with the airshow.
He does recommend leaving 20 to 30 minutes early to make sure you don't get stuck in any airshow traffic.
