(WBNG Binghamton) A certain product is in demand all across the country, and here in Broome County sales have almost tripled.

Gun sales have been increasing steadily within the past week.

The Broome County Sheriff Department says they're having trouble keeping up with all the new permit applications.

One local firearms story is also having trouble, and that's with keeping his shelves from becoming empty.

The owner of Timber Creek Sportsman Shop says he attributes recent sales to more than the holiday season.

"Well a lot of people I think are a little bit afraid of what's happening out there, they know there are some changes that are going to be coming with the gun laws I'm sure, so they feel they wanna get a fire arm while they're still available and they can still own one," said owner Chuck Sherwood.

Sherwood adds that a person's first priority when owning a firearm should be to keep it locked up and not accessible to anyone without a permit and proper training.
