Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton High School had a very special guest Thursday.

An actress and vocalist playing former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt came to talk to students.

Rene Goodwin has studied many historical figures and Thursday she spoke as Roosevelt.

She shared a glimpse back to the early 20th century of the United States for students.

Goodwin says there is a lot these students can learn from people in the past.

"By learning about someone like Eleanor Roosevelt, they learn about her personal life. They learn that iconic people, leaders, had challenges in their life, it wasn't that life was a bead of roses," Goodwin said.

"They were human beings, they had heart breaks, they had tears, they had disappointments. They were normal in a lot of ways, they just had a fire burning in them or a vision of something they wanted to address."

Goodwin travels around the region putting on one-woman shows that feature Roosevelt and other iconic women in history.
