Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton University Students try to give a Merry Christmas to underprivileged children in the community.

Monday morning students at BU wrapped up their annual Hand to Heart Holiday Project.

The annual holiday drive organized by Residential Life and the National Residence Hall Honorary, allows students to donate gifts to children this holiday season.

The Salvation Army received 1,130 requests for gift bags to be donated to families in need.

Campus residents surpassed that mark with over 1,600 students signing up to donate.

Bryan Gitto, a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary and a junior at Binghamton University said, “We separate the toys into boys and girls and then we do it by age, so there's infants and then seven to nine is one other age. So the residents that bring back the bags are able to pick a specific age group to bring the bags back to."

An estimated value of the toys donated this year reaches well over $10,000.
