Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Residents in Owego are just a few days away from choosing their next mayor.
Incumbent Kevin Millar is running against Owego business owner Lisa Curatolo.
A win for Millar would mean his second consecutive term in office.
"I have the experience of dealing with the flood issue,” said Millar, a member of The Rebuild Owego Party. “Most people that vote I hope know the job that I have done for the past two years."
He said he wants to continue and finish the flood mitigation efforts in the village, as well work to create new laws dealing with well water protection and road use preservation.
"So that if heavy industry comes into the area, that our roads do not suffer,” said Millar.
Millar is being challenged by Curatolo, a member of the A Positive Change Party.
She owns two businesses in Owego, The Goat Boy and The Goat Boy Coffee Bar.
She says she wants to work on removing drugs from the village and improving safety throughout the village.
"I would also like to get a police officer back in the high school working with the kids at a younger age," said Curatolo.
She is calling for a top-to-bottom change in the village’s government.
Curatolo said voters should support her "if they want to see a change to the village of Owego. If they are not happy with the way things have been, or sometimes it's just a matter of change is good."
Voters will pick their next mayor March 18.
Voting runs from noon to 9 p.m. at the Owego Fire Department on North Street.
