Ithaca Police: Man threatened to stab people in the face

Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Ithaca Police arrested a man after he threatened to stab anyone who came into his apartment.

Ricardo C. Williams, 33, Ithaca, was charged with menacing in the second degree.

Ithaca Police responded to the 100 block of East State Street early Saturday morning for a domestic incident.

According to the department, officers heard Williams yelling from inside the apartment that he would stab anyone who came inside in the face.They also heard him throwing items around.

Police said Williams suddenly opened the door holding a large butcher style knife over his head making stabbing motions toward the officers.

An officer tased Williams, but Williams made his way back inside his apartment and began to barricade the door.

The Ithaca SWAT Team and the Critical Incident Negotiation team responded to help.

After several hours of trying to get Williams to talk, the agencies used a robot camera and entered the apartment.

They found Williams still with the knife and arrested him. He was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Williams was arraigned in the Ithaca City Court. He is charged with menacing a police officer, a class D felony, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.

He was sent to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.
