Johnson City, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) A high school singing and dancing group returned home with armfuls of awards on Sunday night.

The Sophisticats Show Choir from Johnson City High School stole the show at a recent singing competition in Virginia.

Under the choir director, Jennifer Chudacik, the Sophisticats participated in the Showfusion competition in Kings Dominion on April 5.

It was the group's first time at the competition and they took first in several categories.

The Sophisticats came in first place in the following categories:
- Best Female Vocalist (Clarisa Williams)
- Best Male Vocalist (Denny Burham)
- Best Vocals
- Best mixed high school vocal group
- Best 1st place overall show choir

"Honestly, all of them are so important to us, but they also just show how much sweat and effort we put into the show," group member Stamatia Dimitriou said.

The JC community, including the Johnson City Fire Department, came together Sunday night to acknowledge their hard work.

The Sophisticats were welcomed home with a procession that began on Harry L Drive and continued to the high school.
