Dozens of animals rescued from Kirkwood home
Kirkwood, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An investigation into an animal rescue set up at a Kirkwood home results in animal cruelty charges. Officials rescued 58 cats and 15 dogs from 139 Burts Rd. where Lisa Mistretta, 49, ran the Humane Enforcement and Animal Rescue or H.E.A.R.T., according to the Broome County Sheriff's Office. The animals were recently removed because conditions at the home caused illness and suffering among the animals, the sheriff's office said. The Broome County Humane Society and volunteers from the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society, of Georgia, assisted in the investigation. Mistretta was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty and released on an appearance ticket for Kirkwood Town Court. Click here for more information on how to help.
