Little Binghamton League cashes in to start season

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Little Binghamton League can start the season swinging. Weis Markets donated $3,000 to the city of Binghamton's little league.

Carol Quinlivan, Binghamton Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, was at the Weis Market on Pennsylvania Avenue to receive the check.

"It's been just a great opportunity for the city youth program to receive this donation and it takes us all through the season. It enables us to buy equipment for all these children," Quinlivan said.

There are 15 teams in the league, with 15 children on each team. Ages for the ball players range from 9 to 12.

Weis' district manager for New York, Mike Umstead, said little league, "brings together family and friends and teaches children about team work and cooperation."

Weis has given donations to the Little Binghamton League for the past three years, totaling $9,000.
