Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Greater Binghamton native hopes to educate others on the bygone days of Binghamton.

Jack Shay met with the Binghamton Rotary to discuss "Bygone Binghamton Remembering People and Places of the Past," a two-volume book on the history of greater Binghamton in the 20th century.

The book brings readers on a tour of businesses and places that no longer exist.

Shay says it took a lot of work to make this book possible.

"It took me approximately 8,000 hours over a period of the last six years, to do this. I interviewed over 300 people about 40 of whom have passed away. I did a number of hours, probably 1,000 or more in library's, our local library's or library's out of the area," said Shay.

The book shares the stories of these old places with the people who made the places so memorable.
