Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) One local business has raised the roof for more than a century.

BSR celebrated their 100-year anniversary Thursday.

The company first opened on the corner of Water and Henry streets in March of 1913 and at the time, was known as Binghamton Slag Roofing company. Slag refers to a byproduct of steel making that was once used for roofing.

The company has maintained its primary offices in Binghamton ever since.

In the 1980's, the company, changed its name to BSR and split into two businesses: BSR and Weathermaster.

"We're a service business, so as long as there are people and businesses that need over-head protection, we've got a business that's fairly well protected. And we hope we've been serving the community the best we could," said company president, Charles Griffiths Jr.

Charles and Peter Griffiths are the fourth generation of their family to manage companies that evolved as a result of Samuel M. Griffith's original storefront.
