Oxon Hill, MD (CBS News) Sriram Hatwar, a middle school student from Painted Post, won the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The 8th grader shared the title with a 7th grader from Texas.

The two were the first co-champions since 1962.

The tie was called after the pair spelled a dozen words in a row correctly during a final round face-off.

They had nearly exhausted the judges' supply of tough, championship words.
