Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Patients going to Lourdes hospital may want to take some extra time getting there as the hospital begins another major expansion.

Lourdes is building a new $7 million, three story parking garage.

The garage will add more than 200 parking spaces and double the amount of spaces at the original parking lot.

Jim Silkworth, vice-president for human resources and support services, said since more work is being done on an outpatient basis, providing adequate parking has become more and more of a challenge.

"It will be more convenient for patients to pull up right to the floor they need to go to in our ambulatory care center, go to their visit, and be able to leave more easily," Silkworth said.

The project will take eight months to complete.

Until then, parking shuttles will be available to bring patients and visitors to the hospital from the parking lots on hospital grounds.
