Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Candidates for New York's 126th Assembly District came together to debate the issues at the Binghamton Rotary Club's weekly luncheon.
Democratic Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and Republican challenger Julie Lewis answered questions from a moderator and the audience.
The candidates took two very different stances on hydraulic fracturing in New York.
Lupardo asked for patience as studies continue while Lewis said the science is done and New York should open up to natural gas drilling.
"School districts can get cheap energy that way. It can save tax payer money," said Lewis. "We just saw in the paper last week, 5.8 percent tax decrease in the Town of Windsor because of the pipeline going through there."
"We don't want to be in a position like we face in Pennsylvania where they do regulation in reverse," said Lupardo, "Where something's gone wrong, and they put a regulation in place."
The debate was not open to the public but cameras were allowed to record the entire event.
