Man dies after falling through ice

Windsor, NY (WBNG Binghamton) New York State Police released additional information about a Windsor man who died at the hospital after falling into a lake.

Troopers said Richard A. McKee Jr., 39, had been trapping at the Forest Lake Campgrounds in Windsor when he walked onto a section of ice above running water.

The ice broke and McKee fell through up to his chest. Troopers said he pulled himself out and began walking back to his vehicle, when at some point, he passed out.

The owner of Forest Lake Campground said McKee was an experienced trapper.

Windsor Fire was first on the scene and assisted McKee into an ambulance. He was transported to Wilson Hospital where he later died.

Wilson Hospital forensic pathologist, Dr. Dianne Vertes Forensic said McKee died of a heart attack caused by cold immersion.

Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, Windsor Ambulance and Superior Ambulance all assisted state police.
