Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Leaders from Binghamton, Vestal and the Village of Endicott call on Broome County to share more of the county sales tax revenue with municipalities.

Supervisors and mayors are asking for a return to a 50/50 tax split distribution between the county and local municipalities in 2013, especially because they said a county projection of sales tax revenue shows a significant increase in 2012.

"Everybody is looking at increases," said Endicott Deputy Mayor Dave Baker. "If we had any kind of relief of this $8 million extra sales tax pot, it would be a great deal of help to alleviate all of our problems in terms of what we are going to have to pass along to our customers."

Broome County Executive Debbie Preston issued a statement on the subject saying, "We cannot rely on one-time flood-related spikes in sales tax revenue. It's fiscally irresponsible to factor natural disasters into the budget process."
