Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Flood damage forced one of Broome County's largest nursing homes to abandon its property, but now they announce plans for a fresh start.

The Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center will build a new location with the help of a more than 9 million dollar grant from the state's Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law.

The new facility will be constructed on Sheedy Road.

It will have multi-levels.

It will include a 160 bed nursing facility, a 40 bed assisted living facility, and an adult day health care facility.

"It's going to take a few months in order to get all the approvals and the process. Architectural is done. There's many layers of approval to start actually building. The owner's are hoping that once we put a shovel in the ground it will take about a year to get that building up and running," says Denise Johnson with the Vestal Nursing Center.

Currently the nursing home is renting a unit at Willow Point, as well as two wings at the Greater Binghamton Health Center.
