Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Despite talks of privatizing the BC Transit system, Broome County will be expanding its service.
As of Monday, Oct. 21, the BC Transit will add two additional stops to its route in Johnson City, but only if requested.
Both of those stops will be at the Johnson City School District.
The service will run while students are in school Monday through Friday.
Bus number 17 will leave the Oakdale Mall at 8:30 a.m. and arrive at the school at 8:35 a.m. That bus will run to the district again at 11 a.m.
"We feel that the additional stops will be a great way for parents and grandparents to get more involved by giving them a way to get to the plays, concerts and sports events," Broome County Executive Debbie Preston said.
BC Transit will only make these mall to school runs only if its informed of the need ahead of time.
Anyone interested in taking these routes is asked to call the BC Transit information line at (607) 778-1692.
The county stresses that this will not delay any other routes for bus 17.
