Norwich, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Kyle Whitfield, 29, attended his first hearing in the Chenango County Court after allegedly stabbing a man to death in Smithville last week.

The hearing set bail for Whitfield at $150,000 cash, or $300,000 in real property.

Whitfield faces one second-degree murder charge after allegedly stabbing 33-year-old James Button, Jr., of Greene, to death at his Smithville home.

Whitfield waived his felony hearing at the lower court in Smithville and is now awaiting a hearing with a grand jury.

After the Monday's hearing, Whitfield was sent back to the Chenango County Jail.
