Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It has already been named the "Coolest Small Town in America," and now Owego is looking to put another feather in its cap.

It's all part of a national competition called "Prettiest Painted Places in America."

The competition, sponsored by the Paint Quality Institute, searches for municipalities that creatively use paint to create charming downtowns and neighborhoods.

On Front Street in Owego, several storefronts have just gotten new coats, like The Cellar Restaurant.

The owner said the competition offers a great way to continue improving Owego after it was devastated by last year's flood.

"The flood made everything dirty, and then you cleaned up," said Bob Layman. "And painting puts a great cover on everything, it makes everything look better."

Layman also said it is a great way to bring exposure and recognition to Owego.

The winners of the competition will be announced by the end of September. Nine places in New York have been entered.
