Harrisburg, PA (WBNG Binghamton) A modified law will increase penalties for DUI violators who cause a fatal accident and leave the scene of the crime.

Homicide by vehicle resulting from an intoxicated driver carries a three-year mandatory sentence, but leaving the scene of an accident involving death only had a one-year mandatory minimum, until now.

On Monday, Governor Tom Corbett (R) signed a new bill into law to increase the minimum mandatory sentence for drivers who fatally hit an individual and then flee the scene.

Also, known as "Kevin's Law," the law was named in memory of five-year-old Kevin Miller, who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in December 2012.
