Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Tornadoes, fires, floods--natural and man made disasters can strike at any moment...

But are you prepared?

That's the goal of the first-ever Disaster Preparedness Fair at Binghamton University.

Broome County Emergency Services was on hand to answer all types of questions and offer tips on how to be prepared.

This included the Broome County Animal Response Team, which housed nearly 200 pets during last year's flood.

"If you have a pet one thing you should do is prepare a disaster kit ahead of time. It should include food, water, toys, supplies...with cats, like cat litter, temporary litter pans," said Jan Rea, who is part of the response team.

For the elderly, officials with the the Broome County Office for the Aging remind people to not forget your medications if you have to leave your home quickly, and make sure to keep all contact information handy for your doctors.
