Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The New York Department of Transportation said the Prospect Street Connector's first of two major construction phases is 29 percent complete.
The first phase is expected to be complete in December 2015.
"I want to say thank you to the travelers, the commuters, that have done just that," said Jack Williams, Regional Director of NYSDOT. "How they've diverted their trips, the work zones are very manageable during the peak times and it's evident everyday to those who are working out here."
Williams says in late August, the Front Street exit on Route 17 will be closed for construction.
The detour for that closure has not yet been designed.
All of the main road highway construction will be staying the same
The department said one of their biggest concerns while construction is ongoing is making sure traffic runs smoothly.
To help traffic run more efficiently, they've created a Facebook page where drivers can check the conditions before they hit the streets.
"We found it very important to include information on the percentage complete, real live traffic cameras that are tied to 511-NY so that travelers can look at the real live traffic to see if traffic is moving smoothly," said Williams.
Williams called the Facebook page unique and ground-breaking for the construction project.
The page includes photos of the construction, detour maps and travel advisories.
