Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The official start of summer is just days away, meaning people all over the Twin Tiers are hitting the gym to be fit through the warmer months.

For Daniel Zukich, 23, the gym is where he works -- and where he started a new career.

It's hard to miss the 6-foot 6-inch, 250-pound Zukich, and as a physique competitor he wants to catch the judges' eyes.

Physique competitions are similar to body building competitions, although there is no posing and participants wear board shorts.

Zukich first competed in March. He won 4th place in the Men's Tall category at the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio.

"It was my first ever competition and I decided it might as well be the biggest competition in the world," Zukich said.

His career is taking off with physique and paving a better route for his actual job, a personal trainer at American Family Fitness.

Zukich says the key to losing weight is diet and conditioning.

"Very low sugar, no candy, no junk food, very clean eating," Zukich said.

Zukich's family and friends all sport "Team Zukich" t-shirts to help support him before, during and after competitions.

Zukich says he will compete again. He says he wants to go for first place at the Arnold Classic.
