Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Five Binghamton blocks got a makeover thanks to the first I Love My Block event.

Community members spent their Saturday day cleaning up blocks on Lockwood, Cary, State, Virgil and Liberty streets.

Neighbors applied for the I Love My Block event.

Tools and plants were donated to help with the clean up.

Kids on Liberty Street came out with a strong showing.

Volunteer Kady Perry says the youth participating will help keep the block clean in the future.

"It gives them a sense of ownership of the space and pride, with that comes an interest to maintain it," Perry said.

I Love My Block organizers say they hope it will become an annual event.

It was organized by the North Side Neighborhood Assembly.
