Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Owego's first chilly 5k runs is to raise money for one of their biggest holiday events.

The first ever Snowzilla 5k brought runners of all ages to bundle up and help fund the Lights on the River Festival.

Organizers weren't sure how the turnout would be for a November outdoor event.

But said so many unexpectedly signed up, volunteers ran out of hats to give out to pre-registered runners.

The fun run and festival are both hosted by the Historical Owego Marketplace.

This year they're hoping to bring a unique attraction to the already popular festival.

"We're raising money to get this gigantic Snowzilla slide that we're going to put downtown and people can toboggan down, plus it's a nice thing, it's not just for charity it's also a nice way to bring the community together," said Christine Hafer, Snowzilla 5K Co-Director.

The Lights on the River festival will be on December 7 in Owego.

Runner that participated in the 5k all received a free ride coupon for one of the attractions
