Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Across the country schools are reading the same book to their students as part of a literacy effort.
That book this year was "Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad", by Jacky Davis and David Soman.
Broome-Tioga BOCES was a participating school focusing the effort on the special education population.
One major goal is that the number of schools participating increases each year, striving to reach a new record.
Kathy Sheehan the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction at BOCES tells us why this is important.
"To help students understand how important literacy is and to increase the awareness for families. That reading is such a fundamental important skill," said Sheehan. "It is an extensive E-mail blast out to many, many, people that get chosen each year as the book to be read and librarian media specialists across the nation makes sure that everybody is doing this effort."
