Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Among State and Federal elections coming in just a few days local elections are heating up, including in the Town of Union for it's top spot of supervisor.
Former supervisor Jack Cheevers is running against Rose Sotak who was appointed to the position.
For Rose Sotak it's a matter of commitment to the Town.
"Why am I stepping up? Well, I think I have that vision of what the Town of Union Residents need right now," said Sotak.
Deputy Town of Union Supervisor Rose Sotak stepped up to the plate once before at the start of this year when John Bernardo stepped down from office.
"During the time when John Bernardo left, we were really still in disaster mode and I had so much hands on with the flood situation that I thought it was important for me to continue," said Sotak.
During the flood of 2011 Sotak was in the street with residents working to aide in their recovery, and she's hasn't stopped since.
"...Doing our studies for our drainage, being able to help our business in flood proofing...," said Sotak.
Having been a town council member since the start of 1999 Sotak says she knows the Town, and has already been putting in the work to better it.
"It was important to take our courts and move them to JC and to do a shared services at the time of square footage and to be looking ahead with a vision with the State Police to have a larger presence in the Town of Union," said Sotak.
Sotak says she's always looking ahead to the next thing.
"Everybody is replaceable so anything is possible but also I am a hands on person. A lot of these people call me here...they call me at my home," said Sotak.
The appointed Town Supervisor also strives to see more ribbon cuttings, hoping to bring more people and growth to the Town.
