Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Whether it be snow, hurricanes, tornadoes or any type of severe weather, preparation is key to be ready for mother nature's worst.

That was the topic at Tuesday's rotary lunch in downtown Binghamton.

Shelley Bierwiler from the American Red Cross addressed the crowd, sharing more than a decade of experience with the organization.

She highlighted how to best prepare for natural disasters.

"It is really important to have a go kit or an emergency kit ready in your car. It might include warm clothing, blankets, food," said Bierwiler.

Bierwiler said the best thing you can do is listen to officials and heed their warnings.

And of course, if you don't need to go out, just stay home.
